Maybe it does not make a lot of sense to call a blog “Lavalover” and post a picture of the Laguna de Alchichica, but for me, in some cases, they are just inverted volcanoes. Besides, it shows “Cerro Volcan de Pizarro” in the back, which currently is my favorite, distinct volcano.
The Laguna de Alchichica or “Blue Lagoon” is situated at the border, between the state of Puebla and the state of Veracruz. It is a salt water lagoon and therefore people believed for many centuries that it is connected to the ocean. This would have been remarkable because it is at an altitude of ca. 2200 meters. Only recently it was classified as beeing of volcanic origin and there still is the question of its actual depth, because nobody ever went deeper than 200 meters.
There are many myths and legends about this place, stories of a mermaid or a siren and of UFOs landings came up at my internet research. What I find most remarkable are the white rocks, which are salt and mineral deposits.
